«Great Silk Road» International Folklore Festival Order of participation 11-13 July, Margilan, 2019

Festival organized in order to promote unique samples of culture and art widely, to preserve and develop it, to up bring the younger generation in the spirit of love for the art, to further strengthen bonds of friendship and brotherhood among countries and nations, expand creative cooperation and cultural-enlightenment relations internationally.

Main organizers of the festival are Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan, and Fergana regional municipality.

«Great Silk Road» International Folklore Festival will be organized in Margilan from 2019 biannually. Festival in 2019 will be organized on July 11-13th.

Main Goals and Objectives

Preserving, studying, mastering, promoting and developing of folk music according to the time, encouraging talented performers of folklore;

Upbringing the young and the future generation in the spirit of love for the folklore, to popularize rich, artistic and aesthetic possibilities of musical heritage, to strengthen friendship bonds among nations;

Covering Uzbek epic art and other folklore genres, conducting scientific and creative dialogue and developing cooperation, expanding cultural-enlightenment relations internationally;

Preserving and developing of harmony and diversity of national cultures with foreign countries, promoting, preserving and developing the folklore which is considered the leading genre of folklore arts;

Calling representatives of different nations to the cultural dialogue, preserving whole cultural environment, as well as strengthening cultural collaboration among countries and nations on the basis of universal aesthetic ideals.

Main arrangements of the festival

During the Festival competitions to following nominations will be held:

  • singing art (lullaby, ulan, lapar, terma, ritual songs, khalfa and bakhshi art and others);
  • dancing art (folk dances of different regions);
  • old traditional/national folk instrument performance art (the performance of the folk with national music instruments);
  • scientific-creative conference on the framework of the Festival;
  • gala-concet with participating of cultural representatives;

Whole performing program’s duration of the participants during the competition should not be more than 20 minutes.

Use of phonogram in participation during the festival is prohibited

Organizing Committee will announce the list of participants, who will be invited to the Festival till May 1st, 2019.

International Jury

To assess the Festival participants the Organizing Committee shall form an International jury of seven people.

Highly qualified specialists, prominent art and culture figures, scientists, researchers, practitioners, as well as relevant representatives from participating countries are invited to the staff of the International Jury.

The main criterion of evaluation are:

The artistic value of the repertoire (ethnographic accuracy and the advantages of rewriting or styling), reflecting the territorial peculiarity in the material;

The level of proficiency and artistry, the degree of method’s mastering of public performance;

The ways of performing national traditions of oral, musical, singing and dance and balancing them;

The artistic level of the decoration (clothes, props) and its compatibility with national traditions, the use of traditional musical instruments;

The artistic level of decorative-applied works.

Awards of the Festival

Winners of the competition shall be awarded by the following amounts:

1st place (in each direction) - 3 500 USD;

2nd place (in each direction) - 2 500 USD;

3rd place (in each direction) - 1 500 USD;

Due the best judges of the international jury will be awarded with one Laureate diploma for each nomination.

In addition each nomination will be awarded diplomas of 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees, also special diplomas for each participant.

Each participant of the festival will receive a certificate of active participant of Great Silk Road International Folklore.

Organizing Committee will be responsible for accommodation, meals, local transportation during the festival period for participants, guests, and international jury members.

Each participant of the festival must have his/her own health insurance.
